I know what you’re thinking, I thought what you thought … “this will never happen to me”.
Just like you, I thought that a heart attack is something that happens to other people.
I thought that you must be obese or sick to get a heart attack, right?
Well… not really… at the age of 45, I had one, yes, a heart attack! And it almost killed me.
It came out of nowhere…
At the time I thought that my overall health was pretty good, you know I tried to eat healthy, exercise and control my drinking. I heard stories of people I knew that had a heart attack or a stroke and I always dismissed it by saying “surely they neglected themselves, or they were sick to begin with”. It never occurred to me that I will be one of “them”.
Over the years I packed on an extra 30 lbs, nothing extreme but enough to feel uncomfortable in my own skin. I would feel the pressure in my chest when I bent over to tie my shoelaces, I will have to stop for air when climbing stairs and when my old clothes didn’t fit anymore, I’d buy a size larger, saying to myself that after this ‘next project’ is over, I’ll have time to take better care of myself.
But health doesn’t work on your schedule…
The consequences of my heart attack were devastating. It changed my entire life. You’d think that it’s all related to my health, but let me tell you something, I couldn’t work for 6 months… imagine what that does to your business, I almost went bankrupt.
And it wasn’t just my business that suffered. I wasn’t present in my children’s lives. I stopped socializing and developed anxiety of a repeat heart attack (statistics show a 50% chance of reoccurring heart attack within 6 months of the first one).
I was afraid to leave my home.
Then there were pharmaceutical drugs… if the heart attack didn’t kill me, then the side effects from these drugs almost did.
I suffered from insomnia, mid fog, anxiety, depression, muscle aches and to top it all, erectile dysfunction. I lost my sex drive and for the first time in my life felt helpless and ashamed.
Imagine a man dealing with all this at once…
I was determined to get my life back on track and regain my health. I invested ten and thousands of dollars in treatments, supplements and experts to help me regain control of my life.
I learned that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number ONE cause of death globally, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year. CVDs are a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Four out of 5 CVD deaths are due to heart attacks and strokes, and one-third of these deaths occur prematurely in people under 70 years of age.
Did you know that 31% of all deaths worldwide are from CVD? That’s 17.9 million people who die every year! And 85% of these deaths are due to heart attack and strokes.
And you know what’s the scariest part of it all? 85% of CVD is lifestyle-related and preventable!
The good news is that even if you develop heart disease, as I did, you can reverse it.
